Privacy Training for Today’s Administrative Health Data Realities
The wait is over — HDRN Canada’s new privacy e-learning course is now available! Dr. Donna Curtis Maillet and Dr. Bethany Jones will walk participants through Protecting Personal Information, which provides a pan-Canadian foundation in privacy and ethics for the secondary use of administrative health data. Four self-paced modules explore the responsible use of personal and personal health information, the health data life cycle, core principles of data ethics, and emerging privacy considerations in today’s evolving research environment.
Designed for a broad audience — including students, analysts, data stewards, data business owners, review committee members, researchers and members of the public — this foundational course offers practical guidance for anyone involved in the collection, use, governance or review of administrative health data. About the Speakers:
Dr. Donna Curtis Maillet (she/her) is the Chair of HDRN Canada’s Privacy Team and the Data Privacy Program manager at DataNB located at the University of New Brunswick. Dr. Curtis Maillet advises and ensures privacy legislation compliance with all aspects of the data life cycle collection, from collection and access to use, dissemination and disposition. She is responsible for developing and communicating data policy and procedures, documentation of data business lines, provision of privacy training, and data access application reviews for privacy compliance.
Dr. Bethany Jones is a science writer with DataNB, where she focuses on translating complex research into accessible, engaging formats for wide-ranging audiences. Dr. Jones joined DataNB in 2017 while working towards her PhD in English Literature. Now, she uses her arts background to incorporate storytelling into all kinds of projects—from reports and lay summaries to grants, training programs and more. She has worked closely with the HDRN Canada Privacy Team to create the network’s first e-learning privacy training program, taking technical content and transforming it into an interactive learning experience.
